About
Ruth York
Ruth York has been writing stories for more years than she’d care to admit. While her love of reading first started with the Thoroughbred horse series (yup, she was a horse girl) and the Jewel Princess series, she truly became invested in fantasy with the introduction of Redwall. In fifth grade, her writing journey began with her two best friends when they decided to create their own Redwall story (her character was a badger). True obsession began when she began The Protector of the Small series by Tamora Pierce, and her life was officially forever changed. Tamora Pierce still holds an incredibly dear spot in Ruth’s heart, and you may see elements of her fierce heroines, feminism, and adventurous quests.
While Ruth has been writing novels since she was twelve, she took a long break from writing consistently when she reached college. After graduating with a BA in English from Hardin-Simmons University, she found a new passion: libraries. She earned her Masters of Library Science from Texas Women’s University and became a children’s librarian for public libraries, serving on the Bluebonnet Award Committee and pioneering new programs for ages 0-18. Libraries are still a huge passion of hers, but she stepped back from work with the birth of her second child (ironically the pandemic hit just as her maternity leave finished).
As 2023 began to wind down, Ruth decided to stop ignoring the persistent story ideas revolving in her mind. For the new year, she resolved to write every single day – whether it was an outline, some descriptions for her D&D campaigns, or her actual novel.
War of Monsters grew from that resolution and the first draft was completed October 2024. She has kept the goal going, and continues to write at least a few words every single day.
The Aberrations series was born of wanting to see a romantic fantasy (NOT a romantasy) with some horror elements sewn in. While there is a strong romance subplot, Aberrations is at its heart a fantasy series: full of mystery, danger, quests, swords, magic, and monsters.
Besides writing, Ruth loves board games and has cultivated quite the collection. She also is the DM/GM for two different D&D campaigns. She lives in Texas with her husband, three children, and five cats.
